Tacoma Sport VS. Off-Road

Choosing the right vehicle for you is not always an easy decision, but once you have figured out what vehicle you like best, that is unfortunately not the end of the road of a lot of decision-making that you will have. Actually, some may say that figuring out what type of vehicle you are looking for is actually the easy part. The hard part is the nitty-gritty decisions that you have to make when choosing the trim level, add-ons, and any special features or colors that you may want. Picking your trim level is not always easy or straightforward, and choosing which trim level you want for the Toyota Tacoma is no different, but we are here to help make it a little easier.

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma has six different trim level options. These options are SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro. Two of the most highly sought-after trim levels for this vehicle are the TRD Sport and the TRD Off-Road.

The TRD Sport trim level comes in an access cab 6-foot bed, double cab 5-foot bed, or a 6-foot bed. The starting MSRP for this model is $33,310 and it gets 19 miles per gallon city and 24 miles per gallon highway. Some of the highlighted features of this car are Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Projector-Beam Headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights, Available Power Tilt/ Slide Moonroof with Sliding Sunshade, Composite Bed with 120V Power Outlet, Available 10-Way Power Adjustable Driver Seating, 2-Way Lumbar Support, 4-Way Adjustable Front Passenger Seat, Available Premium Audio with Dynamic Navigation, 8-inch Touchscreen Display, Toyota Safety Sense, Available Smart Key System, Available Panoramic View Monitor with Camera, and Qi Compatible Wireless Smartphone Charging.

2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road

The TRD Off-Road trim level also comes in an access cab 6-foot bed, double cab 5-foot bed, or a 6-foot bed. The starting MSRP for this model is $34,565 and it gets 19 miles per gallon city and 24 miles per gallon highway. Some of the highlighted features of this car are Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Projector-Beam Headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights, Available 10-Way Power Adjustable Driver Seating, 2-Way Lumbar Support, 4-Way Adjustable Front Passenger Seat, Available Premium Audio with Dynamic Navigation, 8-inch Touchscreen Display, Toyota Safety Sense, Available Smart Key System, Chrome Rear Bumper, Black Overfenders, Color-Keyed Door Handles, 16-in Machined Contrast Alloy Wheels, Available Multi-Terrain Select with Crawl Control, Electronically Locking Rear Differential, and Available Multi-Terrain Monitor with Camera.

Some other features of this vehicle are 24-hour roadside assistance, Star Safety System, Child-Protector rear door locks, Tire Pressure Monitor System with individual tire location alert, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Rear Parking Assist Sonar, Class-IV towing hitch receiver, Engine immobilizer, ATF cooler, engine oil cooler, power steering cooler, and ToyotaCare.

So, what’s so different?

You may be thinking that those two trim levels are not very different, but they are actually for two completely different drivers. The Tacoma TRD Sport has more of a sporty suspension, which means that it is less flexible than a vehicle that is geared for off-roading. This is not a bad thing if you are just in the market for a truck that you will probably never take off the normal road, but if you are planning on doing any sort of off-roading, this may not be the vehicle for you.

The Tacoma TRD Off-Road has Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control capabilities, standard electronically controlled locking rear differential, and better break-over angle degrees, which makes it great for people who are looking to go off-road. Although you can certainly purchase a vehicle like the TRD Sport and try to make some off-road friendly modifications to it, you will not be able to add things like Crawl Control or Multi-Terrain features to your vehicle, which means it may be a better idea to go with the TRD Off-Road.
